About this audiobook
The Real Thing is, on one level, a somewhat ironic tale of an artist and two rather particular models. Yet it also raises questions about the relationship between the notion of reality in our humdrum world, and the means that an artist must use in trying to achieve, or reflect, that reality. Though the protagonist is an artist and illustrator of books, not a writer, it's not hard to imagine that James has himself, and other writers, in mind.(summary by Clifford)

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another beautiful reading by Nicholas Clifford of One of the most incisive short stories you will ever read, a real critique on what authenticity is, and the social roles that we take on trying to live for other people. The story will make you doubt what sincerity is, and how to recognize it when you see it. It also portrays the dilemma of the artist obliged to put forth in ink and paint what the appearances are, not reality. And the tragedy of people who become one society asks of them. Unlike Henry James is longer works, the short story does not lack a plot.
