About this audiobook
The Duke of Castleford has been so bad for so long that scandal can't be bothered to rise up around him anymore. To alleviate the boredom of his privileged life, he occupies himself with drinking and whoring, not to mention the occasional duel. When something piques his interest, however, he has been known to emerge from his ennui and employ his considerable mental faculties to finding answers to the questions that fascinate him. When Daphne Joyes rejects this notorious hedonist's seduction, she assumes that he will forget about her and continue on his path to hell. Instead her beauty, grace and formidable composure captivate him, and she becomes one of those fascinations to him. That he intends to have her, and soon, is actually the least of the dangers that his pursuit of her presents. More troublesome is his interest in her past and her history, and the way he keeps poking his nose into the secrets behind the distant relative's bequest that gave him ownership of the property where she lives.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5OK story but too long.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really enjoyed the conclusion to this Rarest Blooms saga. Both Mrs. Joyes and Castleford were intriguing and enjoyable characters. The plot, with its twists and turns, was better than average. I truely enjoyed this conclusion to this series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/52nd read- I like the insight into the characters' reasons and motivations, and how they develop. I feel like both characters could have been kinda hard to relate to, but through their musings we're taken along on their journey with them. There's attraction from the first, but they do get to know, and challenge, each other as well. Try it if you like wealthy Dukes, women with secretive pasts who try to resist charming rogues, and reformed rakes. =D There's a variety of steaminess, but not a lot of detail, so it still feels kind of middling steamy to me.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I enjoyed this book and am a big fan of Madeline Hunter in general. I listened to the audio version of this book and while I generally prefer audio books, I was not a fan of the person who read this novel.
I think the romance is well written, and there were absolutely fun plot twists and surprises. It's an easy read and a good book.

Overall story: 3.5/5 - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Castleford and Daphne are great characters. Castleford receives a small but unexpected inheritance when a relative dies. He meets (or rather remeets) Daphne when he is visiting one of the properties. Castleford plans to seduce Daphne but she has plans of her own and expects him to behave a certain way. Castleford spends most of the book trying to figure out why Daphne and the other tenants are on the properties with such favorable terms - a very interesting component to the plot that leads to trust and a better understanding between the two. This is the only book I have read in the series and I'm glad I picked the book with the most interesting characters. The other series characters appear here and I'm not that interested in reading their stories.
