CANARIES
MY NAME is Rob Lines and my interest in keeping birds came from reading Cage & Aviary Birds. In my teenage years during the 1970s I worked for a multiple newsagent chain, sorting magazine and newspaper returns for the company. Whenever there was a Cage & Aviary Birds, it came home with me.
My first birds were zebra finches, and then came a few foreign finches. (These were the days before the import ban.) I moved into keeping various canariesfinches a couple of years later. My attempts at breeding mules (canary x British finch) led me to keeping some Norwich canaries as well. However, it was a article in 1995, written by Derek Dix, that caught my attention and started my journey with cinnamon canaries. I purchased my first pairs from Derek that same year and over the next 15 years I would make the occasional pilgrimage to East Anglia to buy or swap birds with him.
