DOPETHRONE

TOTEM CAT

Canadian DIY gang stay evil with seven tracks of sin

It’s been six years sinceis a punishing diatribe of misery and mirth, while and ooze malignancy. Between the gnashing fury of his vocals and the bludgeoning density of his riffs, frontman Vincent Houde is like an animal possessed, while the drums and bass provide with a molten steel core, shifting dangerously at every turn. At a shade under 40 minutes, the album doesn’t overstay its welcome, but its relentless pounding can feel like a test of endurance, while scattered dialogue samples risk derailing the rhythm. Uncomfortable and unyielding, just like Dopethrone like it.
