Last year I reported on a common issue with the E87 BMW 1-series – namely rainwater leaking through the boot pressure equalisation vent and collecting in the outermost boot well, which also houses the park distance controller unit that can become submerged, causing a range of diagnostic conundrums! As a fix I squirted some polyurethane around the vent on my 2006 130i and hoped that would be the end of it. However, the boot well was still filling up after prolonged rainfall. More detective work would be needed…
