Wales

Wales offers a dozen entries in GM’s Top 200 of the UK and Ireland, an impressive statistic for a country with fewer courses than Yorkshire. One of the first clubs across the border is Rolls of Monmouth, where elevated woodland separates the two nines. The greens are large and there’s a distinctive closing hole and on-site accommodation.

Heading west, nearby is the excellent Ashburnham, which is an unusual but happy mix of strong, traditional links with some more varied holes close to the clubhouse.
