What is Neom? Saudi military were 'told to kill' to clear land for development

Lethal force has been authorised by Saudi authorities to clear land for a futuristic desert city being constructed by numerous Western businesses, says the BBC.

According to Colonel Rabih Alenezi, he was given the order to drive out residents of a tribe in the Gulf state so that The Line, a component of the Neom eco-project, could be built.

Alenezi, who has now applied for political asylum in the UK, claimed that in April 2020, an order was issued characterising the Huwaitat as "many rebels" and dictating that "whoever continues to resist [eviction] should be killed”.
