ORNAMENTAL LILY BLOCK

A new take on the lily unit

This is a companion block to Block 5 in the series – another curvy lily flower but different in both shape and construction. Slightly more curvaceous and with a contrasting centre spike, the four flowers are repeated in a less formal arrangement around the centre 4-patch unit.

Choosing the fabrics

The two (2) fabrics for the flower petals echo those in Block 5, with a dark fabric (Janet Clare’s Collage Collection Ink range 16953 15) used for the larger outer petals and a blue-green version of the same leaf design for the smaller inner petals (Sky 16953 13). The spike is made from a light abstract print fabric (Parchment 16951 12), although you might prefer to use a stronger contrast fabric for the feature – audition your choices and see what pleases you most. In the centre of the block, a different dark fabric from the Ink range makes the curvy stems for the flowers (Ink 16954 20).

Lynne used two (2) background fabrics in this block. The centre 4-patch uses the slightly patterned fabric, with the surrounding background squares cut from the plainer background fabric.
