Many of us pursue our hobbies online these days, such as taking a remote yoga class or joining an online book club. But how does this work for singing? Whilst the technology doesn’t yet exist to synchronise singers’ voices in real time, as you would in a face-to-face choir, there are a number of ways that you can sing with others online. It’s accessible, it’s fun, and it can support your wellbeing – all from the comfort of your own home.
There was an explosion of digital singing at the start of the featured 185 singers in 12 different countries. Each member had learnt and recorded their individual part, which was then edited together with all the other voices using a process called multitracking. The final result sounds like a ‘real’ choir, even though the members had never met in person. The virtual choir concept was born.
