All just a bit of history repeated

t was only a few months ago that you could turn on the radio and hear the DJ announcing the number one in 1963), it must have seemed to children of the 60s as, well… a bit of history repeated perhaps? These deja vu headlines seem very reassuring in a world of rapid change, and the same has happened in the world of sailing. Who would think, picking up a sailing magazine in 2024, that they might read of an all-female crew on winning a leg on a round-the-world yacht race? Only this time, it’s the same boat, new crew. And they won not just the leg, but the whole race. And how about Tabarly winning again – on ? This time, it’s Marie Tabarly, daughter of legend Eric, coming for the silverware on her late father’s yacht. Does it mean anything? Well, the usual aphorisms apply, of course: everything is cyclical, there are no new ideas, and so on. You don't need me to paint that picture again. Perhaps the real story here is the rise of women in sailing. Long may it continue.
