fter the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and Declarations of War on Japan and Germany, United States officials were concerned about the possibility of an invasion of the Hawaiian Islands. This would allow Japan to seize United States assets. So, all United States currency was collected from residents to prohibit Japan’s use of them to purchase war materials, as Germany had done in their conquests in Europe. This currency was burned.
