MORE ON MOONRAKER

Dear Editor

I was interested to see the pictures of Moonraker from Mike Breading in the current issue of Old Glory.

The Moonraker (CHK 652) was driven by Bob Edwards and was the prime mover for the Speedway. The Churchill (FEV 858) was driven by Jim Edwards and was the prime mover for the Dodgems. Both Scammells were built in the Edwards’ Ferndale Road workshops Swindon by the Edwards Brothers in the late forties.

I have attached a picture of The Churchill on 11 April 1960 waiting to pull onto Hampstead Heath. She is pulling dodgem trucks 12 and 14, with Moonraker following.

I have also attached a picture of unloading the Edwards’ Burrell No. 3651 from a low loader at Bloxham Steam Fair and Rally on 27 June 1969.
