With jaw-dropping coastal views, it’s little wonder the owners of this three-level home on Sydney’s Northern Beaches were instantly dazzled when they set eyes on it in 2020. Floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides played up the aspect to the full. And, with the living areas on the top floor also looking into the bush canopy, the getaway felt like an upmarket treehouse.

But the empty nesters, with three children now in their twenties, were less enamoured of the 1980s home that hugged the north-facing hillside peppered with palms and eucalypts. Their priority was to enlist Mark Korgul of Watershed
