ALSTOM has demobilised the production lines at Derby Litchurch Lane and is now consulting with staff, trade unions and its supply chain to provide as much certainty as it can regarding its future.
This follows the conclusion of the construction of the final Aventra vehicles for London Northwestern Railway (LNWR). While not all have been released for testing and not all trains have been released for Greater Anglia, West Midlands Trains or LNWR, Alstom has completed the order for 2651 vehicles.
An Alstom spokesperson told Rail Express on April 3: “We have worked constructively with the Government on securing a sustainable future for Derby Litchurch Lane, but after 10 months of discussions we have run out of time, and the production lines have stopped.”
There is currently no confirmed orders for the factory until 2026, when construction of the first HS2 trains is due to start. These are being manufactured in a joint venture with Hitachi, with the bodyshells constructed at Newton Aycliffe before moving to the East Midlands for final assembly and fitting out.
