Stadler to maintain Class 99s at Leicester

STADLER has signed a contract with GB Railfreight to provide a full service offer for the 30 Class 99 bi-mode locomotives on order, with the work to be carried out at a new facility in Leicester.

The £1.5 million shed is being constructed at UK Rail Leasing’s Leicester depot, and will be ready by the end of the year, and fully operational in February next year (RE324). Construction began earlier this year.

Stadler will be responsible for the maintenance of the locomotives, which it is building in its Valencia factory in Spain, once the first ‘99’ is handed over to GB Railfreight in 2025. Beacon Rail will own the fleet, which will be used on mainly intermodal duties. GB Railfreight CEO John Smith
