OVER A career lasting from the mid-1950s until his death on 21 February 2024, Nick Harvey wrote thousands of articles, published many books, was consulted in the development of new firearms, appeared as an expert witness in the NSW Coroner’s Court, gave endless advice on all gun-related subjects and created a knowledge base that few shooters in the world have ever matched. He almost certainly had the longest career of any gun-writer in the world.
LES Bowman, a renowned US gun-writer and long-time US correspondent for Sporting Shooter, once said Nick probably knew more about rifles and handloading than any man alive. Nick considered it the greatest compliment he’d ever been paid.
Knowledge, nous and an excellent reference library were the base of Nick’s success, which was reinforced by his drive; he worked hard and wrote prodigiously.
