STEP BY STEP Plant out module-grown lettuce

Get some lettuce plugs outside now that they’ve had a chance to acclimatise to the warmer weather. Soak the roots thoroughly before you plant them into the bed.

Unlike hearting types, loose-leaf lettuce can tolerate a bit of shade so it’s a useful crop to go with other vegetables such as spinach and beetroot. They should grow away rapidly, so you can start picking in a couple of weeks.
