Bacterial canker
Sunken, flat, discoloured areas of bark appear, followed by oozing resin. Tree buds remain closed, leaves are small and yellow and may have holes.
The cause Bacteria enters trees through wounds, often caused by pruning, but sometimes as a result of pests. Tends to occur in a wet autumn or spring.
Crops affected Apples, cherries, pears, plums and other tree fruit.
