Strawberries and cream. Hammer and nails. Banger racing and Granadas…. When Ford’s top brass first unveiled its brawny Granada and Consul range to the masses back in the 1970s, it probably never occurred to them that decades down the line, their once slick saloons and cool coupes would become the weapons of choice for the UK’s banger racing fraternity. But then that’s what happens when you have a car that’s cheap to buy, easy to fix, has plenty of power and is as tough as a coffin nail. It’s almost as if it were destined for a life of car-to-car combat.
