“Fewer than 14 percent of AIDS victims have survived more than three years after being diagnosed, and no victim reported during the epidemic. AIDS, caused by severe HIV, has no official cure. However, today’s treatment options significantly slow the HIV virus’ effects within six months, substantially reducing both infection and fatality rates. According to the CDC, nearly 1.2 million Americans were living with HIV in 2021, with more than 36,000 people diagnosed that year. Annually, the U.S. government spends $20 billion for HIV prevention and care.
