When I first acquired this finishing mower it had recently had new drive belts and replacement blades fitted, but when the machine was run up it was quite apparent that the bearings of the blade spindles were worn out, as the noise from them was excessive.
With the mower raised, I held each blade and confirmed the wear by checking the looseness of the bearings.
After stripping the mower down, which has been covered in the previous three parts of this series, I have since obtained new bearings for all the blades, together with new spindles. I have also fitted new bearings to one of the swivelling wheels too, meaning that all important bearings will have been replaced during this rebuild.
