Make it Midcentury

SUSAN HALLA, OWNER of online home improvement business Make it Mid Century, first fell in love with architecture as a kid growing up in St. Louis. Her mom would drive her around the city, and as they cruised past the mansions on Lindell across from Forest Park, they'd chat about the details that stood out to them. Her mom suggested that Halla might have a career as an architect someday.

Years later, in 1989, she made good on that prediction by studying architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy, New York.
