BABE RUTH PATCH AUTO CARD DRAWS FREZNIED BIDDING

Collectors can’t get enough Babe Ruth. So when an authenticated cut signature penned by the Sultan of Swat hits the auction block, it draws frenzied bidding.

That was the case when an eBay seller listed a Donruss 2005 Signature Stamps card of Ruth. This 1-of-1 insert includes not only a clean and authenticated Ruth autograph on a stamp, but it offers a uniform patch. The signature is rare enough on its own—it’s inked on a 2-cent 1934 Philippine Islands stamp. The patch goes a long way in upping the ante (and bidding): It’s cut from a Ruth game-worn jersey.

The card drew 81 bids and sold for $22,505. That almost seems like a steal, considering the Bambino’s impact on the game we love.
