Morocco | TRAVEL
To drive our home to another continent had been on our bucket list for some time, so when we received an email in May 2022 from one of the Mediterranean ferry services to say that the route had now reopened between Spain and Morocco it was the motivation we needed. Having tested our self-built campervan in the freezing temperatures of Norway and Sweden, it was now time to test it out somewhere hot. Little did we know how hot.
Two weeks later we found ourselves queued up in the rain at the Brittany Ferries terminal in Portsmouth waiting to be transported to Santander. Soon we were heading south through Spain before being the only camper lining up at the Algeciras ferry port. An anxious hour at the check-in, due to us having no boarding passes, put us in the naughty corner until five minutes before the ferry was due to depart; all part of travelling.
Crossing the Mediterranean Sea, the amount of traffic, close encounters and hooting made the usual Dover to Calais trip seem almost mundane. As we got our first close-up views of the rugged landscape of the north coast of Africa, it dawned on us that we really were crossing to another continent.
Because we were disembarking in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, no border paperwork was handed out on the ferry.
