Specialized’s helmet range is well served at the top end by its aero Evade and airy Prevail models. ‘We’re really happy with those designs, but they’re expensive and specialist,’ says Richard Salaman, Specialized’s UK product manager, ‘so we thought there was an opportunity to bring something in that takes inspiration from both models, but at a cheaper price.’

The new Propero 4 is the result. Salaman says it ventilates better than the Evade and is four watts more efficient at 40kmh than the Prevail – and nearly £100 cheaper than both.
