Land speed racing is somewhat of an underground motorsport in New Zealand, even though it’s quite popular among many automotive disciplines and scenes. Every motor enthusiast scene has a crack at outright speed records, no matter if it’s American, European, Japanese, or Australian origin vehicles. Usually mentioning speed trial events brings thoughts of distant and remote regions that hold these events, such as Lake Gairdner in South Australia, or even further afield to the vast salt flats of Utah in the United States. But if you’re interested, you don’t need to travel that far, as land speed racing is alive and well in New Zealand.
