It’s 2.30am, Wednesday, 3 January, and I’m sitting at Wellington airport eagerly awaiting my flight to Sydney. Summernats, the biggest burnout festival in the world, kicks off in the next 24 hours, and I’m pumped for it! I’m excited to see four Kiwi cars there this year and a massive Kiwi contingent following over to support them. It’s important to keep this momentum to let our Australian burnout friends know we are coming for their trophies!
Once I touch down in Sydney, I grab my rental and head over to see my good mate Mick Hinchy, owner of CLICKB8, to see how Team Picnik and their Summernats prep is going. CLICKB8 is good to go and loaded on the trailer; however, EXCESV, the monster 2000hp VL commodore, still has no blower, and we are leaving in under an hour. (Fun fact: one lap around the Summernats complex in EXCESV burns 140 litres of methanol and requires an oil change straight after; this equates to about $1000 a lap!)
