Match Type: PR22 Provincial and Club
Venue: Marksman’s Nest Firearms Training Centre & Shooting Range, Abbotsdale, Malmesbury.
The Precision Rifle 22LR (known as PR22) shooting discipline has taken off worldwide, and we are certainly seeing the same trend here in South Africa. The cost implications of reloading components in the form of bullets, propellant, primers and cases for the centrefire equivalent of the sport has seen many a seasoned shooter, as well as newcomers, now direct their attention to the more pocket-friendly PR22 format. As we have come to learn, anything 22LR related is fast becoming the feeder path into the high paced sport of precision rifle competitions.
Adding to the appeal of PR22 is the International Precision Rifle Federation World Championship 22 (IPRF WC 22). The first IPRF WC 22 was held in 2023, Italy, where member countries assembled their finest from a series of qualification matches and criteria. With South African Precision Rifle Federation (SAPRF) being an affiliate member of the IPRF, the prospects of being selected as a Protea shooter to compete on the world stage representing South Africa has persuaded centrefire focused shooters to also strive to meet the qualifications for competing in PR22 matches. Several South African SAPRF centrefire shooters therefore qualified and travelled to France to compete in the inaugural IPRF World Championship in 2022.
