Directed by JACQUES RIVETTE
Starring BULLE OGIER, JEAN-PIERRE KALFON, ANDRÉ S LABARTHE
or many a hardened cinephile this will be a major bucket list release, is a key fragment in a sprawling auteur puzzle, telling as it does of a theatre director (Jean-Pierre Kalfon) mounting a production of Racine’s ‘Andromaque’ and, almost instantly, descending into a bitter argument with his girlfriend (Bulle Ogier) who is set to play the lead. She quits, and the film splinters off in two directions, where we see the play coming to life as she writhes irritably in their pokey rooftop apartment.
