The restaurants to go to for a long overdue catch-up

Source: Press handout

We all have at least one, if not several: a friend with whom landing a catch-up with is near impossible.

Dates are floated then lost in the depths of a WhatsApp thread or diarised — only to be sabotaged at the eleventh hour by deadlines and disease. Still, if there is a will there is (eventually) a way, which leads to the question of where this epic catch up should finally take place. After six to 12 months of batting ”it’s been too long!” back and forth, the last thing anyone wants is a dinner which feels rushed, in a room in which no one can hear.

What’s needed is leisure and comfort; good food, well-paced; enough service not to feel twitchy but not so much that it interrupts dialogue. There should be wine to savour, a breadbasket to linger over, and lighting which lends itself to the deep and meaningful. These are the places in which long-parted minds should finally meet.
