Co-written and co-directed by Monty Montgomery, whom Bigelow met while studying at Colombia University, is set in a desolate service station town on the road to Daytona during the lawless 1950s. Willem Dafoe, who also makes his credited acting debut here, stars as Vance, a road rat one year out of “storage” who's just as likely to seduce you as rob you. “It don't matter which way I'm coming from, it's which way I'm going to,” he says, making you sense hasn't once used a rear-view mirror.
