There’s nothing unusual about a 13-year-old boy going to his mother’s bedside in the middle of the night.
Perhaps he’s had a nightmare. Or, maybe something woke and frightened him.

When he approached his sleeping mother in October, his newborn sister lying peacefully in her cot inches away, he allegedly had one thing on his mind. Murder.
Derek is accused of stabbing his mum Irina Garcia, 39, to death in a frenzied attack at their home in Florida.
Afterwards, Derek made a phone call to police.
