Hope for the future

Ophelia Redpath's career spans over 35 years. She has exhibited work in over 100 shows in Britain and overseas, has painted several murals and produced two books. From 1983 to 1984 Ophelia attended the art foundation course at Cambridge College of Arts and Technology, studying under the tutelage of the acclaimed illustrator, Warwick Hutton and the highly respected painter, Julia Ball. After further studies of music and education at Homerton College, University of Cambridge, she took up painting full-time. As well as her oil paintings she also draws in pen and ink, producing detailed designs for posters and illustrations for authors and musicians. She currently lives in Norfolk with her daughter, Sally, who is also an artist. 'For several weeks I had been trying to think up a piece reflecting Mother Earth separated from us as viewers by a filigree silhouette of man-made systems – flyovers, conveyor belts, pylons, factory towers, wires and flexes, and so on. In the end I distilled the mental image to one of a forest of artificial intelligence connections and symbols, behind which Mother Earth and the sky are disappearing.
