5 WALKS IN WA’S SOUTHWEST

A MICROCOSM OF WILD LANDSCAPES, the giant karri, marri and tingle forests of Western Australia’s southwest gives rise to rugged, windswept ridgelines and towering quartzite peaks. Sculpted by turbulent weather, and showcasing turquoise coves and rugged sea cliffs, this pocket of grandeur incongruously harbours some of Australia’s most fragile, endemic blooms, along with some of our most critically endangered species—numbats, woylies and western ground parrots.

Walkers needn’t shoulder heavy packs to scale this region’s accessible, low-rising peaks, but that doesn’t mean the area won’t test your mettle. Nothing on this list has less than a Class 4 rating,
