All systems go for 1860 monument

HONOURING INDENTURED INDIANS

THE 1860 monument to honour the arrival of Indian indentured labourers to Natal is finally set to become a reality.

Neliswa Penny Nkonyeni, the MEC for Finance in KwaZulu-Natal, revealed during the provincial budget last Thursday that the monument was scheduled to be completed in the next seven to eight months.

Nkonyeni said the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture had received R4.1 million in the 2024/2025 budget for the construction of the monument.
