India, in full colour

Forgive me India, I’ve been remiss. It’s more than a decade since my last visit. What was I thinking?

My wife Jacquie has never been. So we decide to take on one of the most touristically achievable routes in India: The Golden Triangle. Delhi to Agra and the Taj Mahal. Jaipur, then quickish stops in Pushkar, Udaipur, Jodhpur and finally the Thar Desert and camels and Jaisalmer. It looks so easy on paper.

We opt for September and it turns out to be a great time to go. It’s the start of the season, the locals and vendors are happy to see us (and our bulbous shopping eyes), the weather is warmish, and it’s relatively quiet. We book a car with a driver and off we go.
