The Cow Who Loves Humans

Running Te Paranui Sanctuary is a round-the-clock responsibility for Alex Chaves as she cares for up to 120 animals at any given time. But relaxing in the paddock with her 12 rescued cattle, Alex wouldn’t have it any other way.

Speaking from the idyllic three-hectare Marlborough property, she tells how it’s not just her own life the cattle have changed, but also residents at local retirement villages, where Olive the cow is a regular visitor and therapy animal.
