LAST IN SERIES

WE were a horsey family. My parents were great hunters; as a child I liked Saturday nights, as there was no more hunting till Tuesday! It was always cold and wet, with endless ploughed fields and long hacks home.

I was a mad keen Pony Clubber; it’s so different now. None of my children are horsey, there’s so much else to do. I have a lovely picture, jumping my pony with a headcollar, no tack, no hat. Now I see children in crash helmets and back protectors, which is sensible I suppose, but I don’t remember anyone getting any more hurt than the odd broken wrist.

My brother Antony was very good
