s the sports coupe genre regained its mojo in the late 1980s, Vauxhall-Opel wanted to recapture the glory days of its Manta. Like the Manta, what became known as the Calibra would use underpinnings from the contemporary Cavalier, then in its critically acclaimed Mk3 guise. The Mk3 Cavalier chassis bestowed the Calibra with superb handling and decent ride comfort, while the Cavalier-inspired interior easily accommodated four with luggage.
