VAUXHALL CAVALIER Mk2 (1981-1988)

Various companies had offered front-wheel drive family and executive cars during the 1970s, but it wasn’t until the second-generation Cavalier arrived in 1981 that the layout was widely adopted by company car fleet buyers. Little more than a rebadged Opel Ascona C (itself part of General Motors’ global ‘J-car’ project), the Mk2 Cavalier stole a couple of years’ lead on the Ford Sierra, offering a crisp, angular and modern look that was reassuringly normal.
