G rades of foot drop, where the front half of the foot drops downwards during walking, range from 0 (total paralysis) to 5 (normal strength). It all depends on the strength and movement in the muscles lifting the foot for abnormal walking (gait) to occur.
It usually affects one foot but can affect both sides, either equally or to different degrees. Whether temporary or permanent, it makes the affected foot catch on the floor during walking. Sufferers may lift the leg high to avoid this, or walk on tiptoe on the other foot to equalise the sides,
