On 30 August 2023, billionaire Egyptian-born former Harrods owner Mohamed Al-Fayed died at the age of 94, almost a year to the day following the 25th anniversary of the death of his playboy son Dodi Al-Fayed and his new lover Princess Diana in a Paris car crash on 31 August 1997. Deranged by grief, Mohamed insisted the ‘accident’ had been deliberately arranged as part of a conspiracy led by the Duke of Edinburgh to prevent a Muslim ever joining the Royal Family.
One man with an even stranger theory about Diana’s death is David Alice, the Canadian creator of an extensive website, THE DIANA-MORRISSEY PHENOMENON, devoted to proving the disaster was uncannily predicted a decade beforehand in British indie band The Smiths’ classic 1986 album – the titular Queen being Diana herself who, while technically a mere princess, famously said she wished to be known as “The Queen of Hearts” during a self-serving pre-deathTV interview. The Smiths’ frontman was, of course, that professional Mancunian misery-guts Morrissey, a well-known vegan. Mr Alice is a vegan too, so, “but they only had , so I bought that instead.” Posterity should be grateful he did.
