Piston Broke

Seized: a nasty word really and there was a nasty, almost prehistoric/primordial-looking soup inside this Yamaha 350cc single cylinder two-stroke.

The odometer indicates the bike covered just shy of 3000 miles in its short active life. Based on the fact that it lived in America, where they have lots of open spaces, and that the indicators have been removed, I’m guessing they were predominantly off-road miles, so maybe three years of use? Who knows!

But even if it was used for double that time, it’s still sat seized-up for the best part of 40 years, so I wasn’t expecting to find happy things when I opened up the engine. Especially as pulling off the barrel had exposed a grey amalgam of oil, water and God knows what else.

To be honest I was just hoping that it would be rebuildable
