Assembling a bike from bits and pieces isn’t always straightforward; bad enough when all the bits are from the same manufacturer, like the front end of this Triumph as an example. Even if bog-standard Triumph bits had been used there would still be some issues but chucking in odd components from somewhere else means some tweaking has to go on. As the whole point of this project is to use up bits which were lying around rather than acquire more bits there are certain compromises forced on it.
Okay, bits available include a set of Triumph forks and competition yokes, a set of BSA forks, originally from the B40 I had a while ago. These were joined by a set of BSA B25 yokes from someone who didn’t need them, a Triumph fixed spindle front wheel, a single-sided BSA front wheel, a selection of mudguard stays and an alloy mudguard.
Initially the idea was to simply fit the full BSA front end into the Triumph frame; for the 1966 ISDT, the factory did just such a thing to some of the team bikes. They also fettled up a special or three using Triumph motors in a BSA-inspired frame but internal company politics meant this wasn’t
