UNSUBSCRIBE from emails (and STOP SPAM)

It’s sometimes said that you shouldn’t click ‘unsubscribe’ links in emails, because it confirms to spammers that your inbox is active. Disreputable spammers can use this information to build lists of active addresses and sell them to criminals on the dark web.

However, there’s nothing risky about unsubscribing from newsletters sent by legitimate firms. Under GDPR these companies have to follow strict privacy laws. They’ll be fined heavily if they’re caught ignoring your requests or mistreating your data.

Messages from mailing lists should always include unsubscribe links at the bottom of the message (known as the footer), but they don’t all conform to the same
