THE AVANT-GARDE

Alex Enticknap

Twenty-three-year-old designer Alex Enticknap's garments wrap lines around the body in mesmerising forms and use patterns made with the help of AI image programs. Before studying fashion at UTS, Enticknap participated in a STEM-related degree, which informed his innovative, digital-first design approach. “I resonate most with artists and designers who are engaged on some level with a meta-commentary of practice [and] industry, questioning how things are made,” he says, citing Martin Margiela and Issey Miyake's avant-garde, future-defining work as inspirations. The rise of AI is a timely conversation, but Enticknap's work shows how it can be used for good – not to mention, creating beauty.
