STAR LETTER

The 'Around Britain' feature on Staffordshire that appeared in the March 2020 edition overlooked the existence of the Burntwood Family History Group. The December 2023 edition manages to repeat the oversight. I am tempted to misquote Oscar Wilde! Perhaps a more comprehensive explanation of our activities is in order.

The Burntwood Family History Group was founded in 1986 by a group of local enthusiasts – some of whom remain involved to this day. We draw most of our current membership from a wide area in and around southern Staffordshire. This includes the Burntwood area itself, the three-spired cathedral city of Lichfield, the villages of Cannock Chase, and the northern parts of the Black Country (most of which was originally part of Staffordshire). We have members dotted across the UK; and even some in Canada and Australia.

The famous Staffordshire Hoard was discovered in a field less than three miles from our current meeting) allowed edited versions of many of our Zoom talks to be posted on the website.
