Wine of the week: top Champagne from a talented actor

£55, harveynichols.com; £58.80, portenoire.co.uk

Actor Idris Elba might not be the first chap you think of when it comes to great taste in fine wine,) extremely favourably last year on my website, and it might sound hard to believe, but the value for money for this wine and my featured rosé is tremendous. Champagne Sanger makes the Blanc de Blancs, and it is a laser-sighted, mineral-soaked, chalky, and teasingly refreshing chardonnay with a pure and superbly balanced palate. As I approached the rosé, I hoped lightning would strike twice, and I am thrilled to report that it did. Petite Porte Rosé is refined, bright as a button, gently perfumed with discreet raspberry and red cherry tones, and yet it seems fresher and more invigorating than hosts of extremely well-known and much more expensive wines.
