tarting with the larger engines, always of interest is Bill Grindrod’s 1936 Marshall Gainsborough Light No.2 6hp engine No. 87843 ; it was exported to Latvia and spent its working life there, probably for direct ploughing duties amongst other things. It was brought back to the UK in the 1990s and a restoration was started sometime later. It was a lengthy and extensive process, with a new boiler barrel and tubeplate being fitted, although the firebox was found to be in good order. The engine also required a new rear axle, suspension boxes and springs, a new manstand, new bunkers, a new drawbar and new drive pinions before it was first steamed in around 2011.
