Who would have thought when the infamous Dr Beeching’s report condemned the Great Central Railway to oblivion back in 1969 that today the section from Leicester North to Loughborough would become a time capsule preserving the very best of the railway scene from the 1960’s.
2023 marks fifty years since a dedicated band of volunteers reinstated services on the line and to celebrate the Great Central has been hosting a number of superb events throughout the year. After a highly successful 50th anniversary gala, August’s celebrations included the fantastic Railways at Work gala.
